The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is seeking an investigation into Qatar’s controversial goal against India in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The goal, which was scored in the final minutes of the match, has sparked allegations of foul play.

The AIFF has lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, requesting a review of the incident and potential disciplinary action. The federation is also exploring the possibility of seeking sporting compensation for the alleged injustice.

“We are deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding the goal scored by Qatar,” said AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey. “We believe that fair play and integrity must be upheld in all football matches, and we will pursue all necessary steps to ensure justice for our team.”

The controversial goal occurred in added time, with the match tied 1-1. Qatar’s Almoez Ali scored the decisive goal, but replays showed that the ball appeared to have struck his hand in the build-up. The referee did not award a penalty, despite the protests of the Indian players.

The AIFF has argued that the referee’s decision was a clear error and should be overturned. The federation is also seeking an explanation from FIFA as to why Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was not used in the match, which would have likely cleared up the controversy.

“We understand the importance of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but we cannot compromise on the principles of fair play,” said Chaubey. “We hope that FIFA will conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.”

The outcome of the AIFF’s investigation and complaint is yet to be determined. However, the federation’s stance has drawn support from fans and other football organizations, who believe that the alleged injustice should not go unpunished.
