New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday rejected Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s offer to resign from his post, and asked him to continue in the role.

Fadnavis had offered to resign after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost the recent by-election for the Kasba Peth assembly seat in Pune, which it had held for over three decades.

However, Shah has reportedly asked Fadnavis to focus on the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which are crucial for the BJP.

Sources close to Shah said that he believes Fadnavis is an important asset to the party and that his resignation would send a wrong message.

Fadnavis, who is also the Maharashtra BJP chief, has accepted Shah’s decision and has agreed to continue in his role.

The BJP’s defeat in the Kasba Peth by-election had raised questions about Fadnavis’s leadership, and some leaders within the party had called for his resignation.

However, the party’s central leadership has now made it clear that it has full confidence in Fadnavis, and that he will continue to lead the BJP in Maharashtra.
