‘As CM, I Must Take Full Responsibility for (Manipur) Loss in LS Polls’: N Biren Singh

Imphal, Manipur – Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has taken full responsibility for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in the state.

“As the Chief Minister, I must take full responsibility for the party’s loss in the Lok Sabha elections,” Singh said while addressing a press conference in Imphal. “I accept that we could not meet the expectations of the people.”

The BJP won only one of Manipur’s two Lok Sabha seats, with the other going to the National People’s Party (NPP). This represents a significant loss for the party, which had won both seats in 2014.

Singh cited several factors for the party’s defeat, including the rise of regional parties and the failure of the BJP to fulfill some of its election promises. He also acknowledged that the party’s performance in the assembly elections held earlier this year had damaged its credibility.

“We failed to fulfill some of our promises, and we did not work hard enough to address the concerns of the people,” Singh said. “We need to introspect and learn from our mistakes.”

Singh’s comments come amid growing criticism of the BJP’s leadership in Manipur. Some party leaders have called for Singh’s resignation, but he has so far resisted these demands.

The BJP’s defeat in Manipur is seen as a setback for the party’s efforts to expand its presence in the Northeast. The party had hoped to make significant gains in the region, but its performance in Manipur has raised doubts about its ability to do so.
