Sources close to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have indicated that Assam BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to be appointed to a cabinet position in the upcoming Modi 3.0 government.

Sonowal, who currently serves as the Chief Minister of Assam, is a senior BJP leader with a proven track record of leadership and administrative experience. He is known for his efforts to promote development and improve the socio-economic conditions in the northeastern state.

According to reports, Sonowal may be given a key portfolio in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, or home affairs. His appointment would add to the representation of the northeastern states in the central government.

Sonowal’s potential induction into the cabinet is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen its presence in the northeastern region. The BJP has made significant gains in the region in recent years, and a cabinet berth for Sonowal would further solidify its political base.

However, the final decision on Sonowal’s appointment lies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is expected to announce the names of his cabinet ministers in the coming days. The swearing-in ceremony for the new government is expected to take place on May 30th, 2019.

If Sonowal is indeed appointed to the cabinet, he will become the first person from Assam to hold a ministerial position at the national level since the late Gopinath Bordoloi.
