Guwahati, February 12: Assam has intensified security along its border with Manipur following a fresh outbreak of violence in the neighboring state, which has led to an influx of hundreds of people seeking refuge in Assam.

In the last few days, clashes between rival ethnic groups in Manipur have displaced thousands of people, forcing them to flee their homes. Many of these displaced people have crossed the border into Assam, seeking safety and shelter.

Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has ordered security forces to tighten border patrols and prevent the entry of any individuals without proper documents. The state government has also set up relief camps to provide food, water, and medical care to the displaced people.

“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Manipur and are committed to providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by the violence,” said Sarma. “We will do everything in our power to ensure their safety and well-being.”

The Assam-Manipur border has been a source of tension in the past, with both states accusing each other of harboring militants. However, in light of the recent violence, both sides have agreed to cooperate to maintain peace and stability in the region.

The influx of displaced people from Manipur has put a strain on Assam’s resources, but the state government has assured that it will provide all necessary assistance to the IDPs. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and other humanitarian organizations are also providing support to the displaced people.

The situation in Manipur remains tense, and it is unclear when the violence will subside. Assam authorities have urged the central government to intervene and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
