Babar: ‘We Were Not Up to the Mark’

(Pakistan Cricket)

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has admitted that his team “were not up to the mark” in their recent defeat to Australia in the first Test of the Benaud-Qadir Trophy in Rawalpindi.

Australia won the match by an innings and 5 runs, claiming a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

“We were not up to the mark in all three departments,” Babar said after the game. “Our batting was not good, our bowling was not good, and our fielding was not good.”

Babar was particularly critical of his team’s batting, which was dismissed for just 166 in their first innings and 268 in their second.

“We need to improve our batting,” he said. “We were not able to build partnerships and we were not able to put pressure on the Australian bowlers.”

Babar also admitted that his team’s bowling was not good enough, with Australia scoring 580 runs in their first innings.

“Our bowlers need to be more consistent,” he said. “We were not able to create enough chances and we were not able to put pressure on the Australian batsmen.”

Finally, Babar said that his team’s fielding was also poor, with Pakistan dropping several catches in the game.

“Our fielding needs to improve,” he said. “We were not able to take our chances and we were not able to put pressure on the Australian batsmen.”

Pakistan will have a chance to level the series in the second Test, which starts on March 12 in Karachi.
