BJP’s UP Brahmin Face, Anupriya Patel Join Modi’s Cabinet

New Delhi: In a significant move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has included its prominent Brahmin face from Uttar Pradesh, Jitin Prasada, and Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (S) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s newly formed 3.0 government.

Jitin Prasada: Brahmin Bastion

Jitin Prasada, a 49-year-old Brahmin leader from Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as Minister of State for Steel. He is considered a key figure in the party’s strategy to woo the influential Brahmin community in the state. Prasada has held various positions in Congress before joining BJP in 2021.

Anupriya Patel: Apna Dal Alliance

Anupriya Patel, the 42-year-old President of Apna Dal (S), has been re-appointed as Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. Apna Dal (S) is a key ally of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, representing the backward Kurmi community. Patel’s inclusion in the cabinet strengthens the BJP’s alliance with Apna Dal (S).

Strategic Appointments

The appointments of Prasada and Patel are seen as strategic moves by the BJP to bolster its electoral prospects in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to the polls next year. The Brahmin community has traditionally been a strong support base for the BJP, while the Kurmi community is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming elections.

Brahmin Outreach

Prasada’s induction into the cabinet is particularly significant as it demonstrates the BJP’s commitment to reaching out to the Brahmin community. The community has been expressing dissatisfaction with the BJP government over issues such as reservations and caste-based politics. Prasada’s appointment is expected to mitigate these concerns and consolidate Brahmin support for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Strengthening Alliances

Patel’s re-appointment is a gesture of the BJP’s appreciation for Apna Dal (S)’s continued support. The alliance between the two parties has been instrumental in the BJP’s success in Uttar Pradesh. Patel’s presence in the cabinet will further strengthen this alliance and provide representation to the Kurmi community.

The appointments of Jitin Prasada and Anupriya Patel in Modi’s 3.0 government reflect the BJP’s strategic approach to consolidate support and strengthen its electoral prospects in Uttar Pradesh.
