New Delhi: A case has been registered against a CISF constable in Punjab in connection with the slapping of actress Kangana Ranaut at Mohali airport last year. The constable, Harpal Singh (40), was present at the airport at the time of the incident, reported NDTV.

The case was filed on a complaint by Ranaut’s lawyer, Vivek Sood, who alleged that Singh had assaulted the actress and caused her “physical and mental agony.”

The incident occurred on September 9, 2021, when Ranaut was physically assaulted by an unidentified person at Mohali airport after landing from Mumbai. The attacker allegedly slapped Ranaut on the face.

The CISF had earlier claimed that there was no physical assault on Ranaut and that the incident was a “verbal altercation.” However, the Punjab Police later registered a case against an unidentified person based on Ranaut’s complaint.

The case against Constable Harpal Singh was registered at the Zirakpur police station under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and Constable Singh has been questioned. The CISF has also initiated a departmental inquiry against him.

Kangana Ranaut is a prominent Bollywood actress who is known for her outspoken views and often controversial statements. The slap row has sparked outrage and debate on social media, with many expressing concern about the safety of women in public spaces.
