Norwegian Casper Ruud reached the Roland Garros semifinals for the second time in his career, but his run was curtailed by a stomach ailment. Despite the setback, Ruud expressed satisfaction with his performance and resilience.

“I’m a little disappointed, of course,” Ruud said. “But overall, it’s been a great result for me.”

Ruud, the eighth seed, began experiencing stomach issues during his quarterfinal victory over Alexander Zverev. He received treatment on court and later attributed his struggles to “food poisoning or something.”

“It was tough in the third set,” Ruud explained. “I was struggling with my stomach. I had to take some timeouts and get some treatment. But I managed to pull through and win the match.”

In the semifinals, Ruud faced top seed Rafael Nadal. Despite his ailment, Ruud pushed Nadal to four sets before falling 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

“I’m proud of my performance,” Ruud said. “I played well against Rafa. He played a great match, but I think I can be happy with my level.”

Ruud, who reached the final of the Miami Open earlier this year, will now shift his focus to the grass-court season. He is scheduled to compete at the Stuttgart Open and the Queen’s Club Championships before Wimbledon.

“I’m looking forward to the next few weeks,” Ruud said. “I’m feeling good about my game. I think I can have a good grass-court season.”
