Hyderabad: Lokesh Nara Chandrababu, the son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has expressed his support for the existing 4% Muslim quota in the state.

In a recent interview, Lokesh, the General Secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), stated that the quota is necessary to ensure the socio-economic upliftment of the Muslim community. He also emphasized that the quota is not based on religion but on social and educational backwardness.

“The Muslim quota in Andhra Pradesh is not a religious reservation but a social reservation,” said Lokesh. “It is aimed at uplifting the backward sections of the Muslim community who have been historically marginalized.”

Lokesh’s statement comes amid a debate over the validity of reservations based on religion. In recent years, several petitions have been filed in court challenging the constitutionality of religious quotas.

However, Lokesh maintained that the Muslim quota in Andhra Pradesh is fully justifiable and compliant with legal precedents. He added that the TDP, if elected back to power, will continue to uphold the quota and protect the rights of minorities.

“Our party believes in equal rights for all citizens, regardless of their religion or caste,” said Lokesh. “We will ensure that all communities have access to education, employment, and other opportunities.”

The TDP’s stance on the Muslim quota has been welcomed by Muslim leaders in Andhra Pradesh. They have expressed their appreciation for Lokesh’s support and expressed confidence that the TDP will continue to work for the welfare of the community.
