Chandrababu Naidu’s Son Nara Lokesh Bats for Muslim Reservation

Hyderabad: TDP leader Nara Lokesh, son of former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday advocated for Muslim reservation in the state.

Speaking at a public meeting in Vizianagaram, Lokesh said that Muslims are one of the most backward communities in Andhra Pradesh and deserve special consideration.

“Muslims have been historically discriminated against, and it is time we took steps to address this injustice,” Lokesh said. “I believe that providing them with reservation in education and government jobs will help them improve their socio-economic status.”

Lokesh’s remarks come ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2024. The TDP has been trying to woo the Muslim community, which constitutes around 10% of the state’s population.

The party has promised to implement a 5% reservation for Muslims in education and government jobs if it comes to power.

Lokesh’s statement has been welcomed by some Muslim leaders.

“We are grateful to Nara Lokesh for taking up our cause,” said Syed Azharuddin, president of the Muslim Welfare Association of Andhra Pradesh. “We believe that his support will help us achieve our demand for reservation.”

However, the TDP’s proposal has been criticized by some political opponents.

“This is just a political gimmick,” said YSR Congress Party leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy. “The TDP is trying to divide society for its own electoral gains.”

The BJP has also opposed the proposal, saying that it would violate the principle of equality.
