The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body of the Indian National Congress (INC), has unanimously passed a resolution to appoint former party president Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.

The resolution was moved by former Prime Minister and Congress stalwart Dr. Manmohan Singh at the CWC meeting held in New Delhi on Friday. All members present at the meeting supported the resolution, which was officially announced by CWC Chairman Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as LoP is seen as a significant development for the INC, which will now have a powerful voice in Parliament to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As LoP, Gandhi will have the responsibility to lead the Congress in the Lok Sabha and hold the government accountable for its policies and actions.

“This is a great honor for me, and I will do my best to serve the people of India as the Leader of the Opposition,” Rahul Gandhi said in a statement after his appointment. “I will work tirelessly to ensure that the voice of the people is heard in Parliament, and that the government is held accountable for its actions.”

Rahul Gandhi, who is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, has been a member of the Lok Sabha since 2004. He served as the INC president from 2017 to 2019, and has been an outspoken critic of the BJP government’s policies.

The INC has been in the opposition since the 2014 general elections, and its performance in recent elections has been disappointing. Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as LoP is expected to give the party a fresh start and help it regain lost ground.
