Danish PM Mette Frederiksen ‘Whiplashed’ on Street; Modi Expresses Concern

Copenhagen, Denmark – On Sunday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was involved in a traffic accident while biking in Copenhagen. The incident, in which she was “whiplashed,” occurred when a car turned into her path.

Frederiksen was taken to a hospital for examination and was later released. She is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those to express concern over Frederiksen’s well-being. He tweeted: “Deeply concerned to learn about the accident involving Danish PM Mette Frederiksen. I wish her a speedy recovery and good health.”

Other world leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, have also sent their well wishes to Frederiksen.

The accident has sparked discussions about road safety and the importance of bike lanes in cities. Frederiksen is a known advocate for cycling and has encouraged other Danes to use bicycles for short trips.

“This incident is a reminder that all road users, whether in cars or on bikes, have a responsibility to be aware of their surroundings and to take precautions to prevent accidents,” said Danish Transport Minister Benny Engelbrecht.

Frederiksen is expected to return to work in the coming days. Her government is currently working on a number of important issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing negotiations with the European Union over Denmark’s membership.
