New Delhi: Delhi’s scorching heatwave intensified on Saturday, with the maximum temperature settling at 44.7 degrees Celsius. The city has been reeling under severe heat conditions for the past few weeks, with temperatures consistently hovering above 40 degrees.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intense heat is due to the lack of rainfall and the prevailing dry northwesterly winds. However, relief is expected soon as the monsoon is predicted to arrive in Delhi by the end of June.

Monsoon Forecast:

The IMD has forecasted that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into Delhi on June 29th or 30th. The monsoon typically brings much-needed relief from the scorching heat and humidity.

Rainfall Outlook:

The IMD has predicted that Delhi will receive normal to above normal rainfall during the monsoon season, which runs from June to September. This means that the city could get somewhere between 64 to 91 centimeters of rainfall.

Impact on Heatwave:

The arrival of the monsoon is expected to bring down the temperatures significantly. With increased rainfall, the humidity levels will also decrease, providing some respite from the oppressive heat.

Health Concerns:

The intense heat can pose serious health risks, such as heatstroke, dehydration, and sunburns. Experts advise people to stay indoors, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid strenuous activity during the peak hours of the day.

Outlook:

With the monsoon set to arrive in Delhi by the end of June, residents can expect a break from the extreme heat soon. The rainfall will not only reduce temperatures but also provide much-needed relief from the dry and dusty conditions.
