Did I.N.D.I.A. Offer PM Post to Nitish Kumar? Congress Responds to KC Tyagi’s Claim

Allegations have surfaced that the Indian National Democratic Indigenous Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) offered the Prime Ministerial post to Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar ahead of the 2024 general elections. These claims were made by KC Tyagi, a former JD(U) leader who recently joined I.N.D.I.A.

Tyagi asserted that I.N.D.I.A. leaders met with Kumar and proposed the PM post to him if the alliance were to form the next government at the Centre. However, Tyagi’s claims have been vehemently denied by both I.N.D.I.A. and JD(U).

I.N.D.I.A. spokesperson Saiduzzama Ansari outrightly rejected Tyagi’s allegations, stating that they were baseless and aimed at defaming the alliance. Ansari clarified that I.N.D.I.A. had not approached any political party or individual regarding the PM post.

Similarly, JD(U) spokesperson K.C. Tyagi dismissed Tyagi’s claims as “false and malicious.” He emphasized that JD(U) was not part of I.N.D.I.A. and that it was committed to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Congress, which is part of the opposition alliance, responded to Tyagi’s allegations by criticizing the BJP for its “divide-and-rule” tactics. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the BJP was trying to create divisions within the opposition and that it was a “desperate attempt” to divert attention from the government’s failures.

The allegations and subsequent denials have created a political storm, with the opposition seeking to exploit the issue to corner the BJP-led government. However, it remains to be seen whether these claims will have any significant impact on the upcoming elections.
