DMK, AIADMK Amp Up Pitch Against NEET-UG in Tamil Nadu, Demand Scrapping

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the two major political parties in Tamil Nadu, have intensified their opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), calling for its scrapping.

The demand for NEET abolition has gained momentum among political leaders and student groups in the state, with protests and rallies held across Tamil Nadu. DMK President M.K. Stalin and AIADMK Chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami have expressed strong opposition to the exam.

The parties argue that NEET-UG discriminates against students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, favoring urban and affluent students with access to coaching and resources. They also contend that it violates the state’s autonomy in education and undermines the federal structure of India.

Stalin has demanded an immediate withdrawal of NEET-UG and has pledged to support any legal action taken against the exam. Palaniswami has urged the central government to consider alternative admission criteria that are more equitable and inclusive.

Student organizations in Tamil Nadu have also been vocal in their opposition to NEET-UG. They have organized protests, hunger strikes, and sit-ins, demanding that the exam be scrapped.

The political parties and student groups have called upon the central government to listen to the concerns raised in Tamil Nadu and take immediate action to address the issue. They have also threatened to launch statewide agitations if the exam is not withdrawn.

The NEET-UG issue has become a significant political issue in Tamil Nadu, with both the DMK and AIADMK using it to rally support among voters. The outcome of the ongoing protests and political maneuvering remains to be seen, but the demand for NEET-UG scrapping is likely to continue to be a contentious issue in the state.
