The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed the bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the alleged irregularities in the city’s excise policy case. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for June 14.

The ED, in its response, reportedly stated that Kejriwal was a beneficiary of the alleged irregularities and had played an active role in the decision-making process. The agency further claimed that Kejriwal had used his position to influence the policy in favor of certain liquor companies.

Kejriwal’s lawyers, however, argued that the allegations against their client were baseless and politically motivated. They claimed that Kejriwal had no role in the policy formulation or implementation and that the ED was trying to implicate him without any credible evidence.

The excise policy case pertains to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the city government’s new excise policy in 2021-22. The ED is probing allegations of cartel formation and kickbacks, with several arrests having been made in the case.

The case has become a major political flashpoint, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing Kejriwal of corruption and demanding his resignation. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on the other hand, has dismissed these allegations as a witch hunt by the central government.

The Delhi High Court had earlier dismissed Kejriwal’s anticipatory bail plea in the case. The Chief Minister has now filed a regular bail plea, which is currently being heard by the court.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 14, when the court is expected to hear further arguments from both sides before passing an order on Kejriwal’s bail plea.
