Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at the opposition parties on Sunday after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a thumping majority in the Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a victory rally in Varanasi, Modi questioned the opposition’s claims that electronic voting machines (EVMs) were rigged.

“After the results, they are asking for a review of votes. Earlier, they were calling EVMs as ‘Chhota Modi’. Now, they are saying ‘Bada Modi’ (the PM) has made these EVMs,” Modi said.

The opposition parties, including the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party, had alleged that EVMs were tampered with to favor the BJP. They had demanded a review of the votes cast through EVMs.

However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has repeatedly denied the allegations of EVM tampering. It has maintained that EVMs are tamper-proof and provide a fair and transparent voting system.

Modi’s remarks have been seen as a direct challenge to the opposition’s claims. It is also a sign that the BJP is confident in the integrity of the electoral process.

The opposition parties have not yet responded to Modi’s taunts. However, it is likely that they will continue to press for an investigation into the use of EVMs in the Lok Sabha elections.

The debate over EVMs is likely to continue in the coming days and weeks. However, it is clear that the BJP is not willing to tolerate any allegations that the electoral process has been compromised.
