Farida Jalal Defends ‘Heeramandi’ Co-Star Sharmin Segal Against Trolling

Veteran actress Farida Jalal has come to the defense of her ‘Heeramandi’ co-star Sharmin Segal, who has faced online trolling for her performance in the teaser of the upcoming web series.

In a recent interview, Farida expressed her disappointment over the negative comments directed at Sharmin. “I think it’s unfair,” she said. “People should be more supportive of young actors.”

Farida praised Sharmin’s talent and work ethic. “She’s a very talented actress,” she said. “She’s done a great job in ‘Heeramandi.’ Maybe that’s her capacity, what she’s capable of.”

‘Heeramandi’ is a period drama set in the 1940s during the British rule in India. It stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sanjay Kapoor alongside Farida and Sharmin.

The teaser of the series, which was released on January 20, has received mixed reactions. While some praised the visuals and performances, others criticized Sharmin’s portrayal of a young courtesan.

Farida urged people to reserve judgment until they have seen the entire series. “Don’t make judgments based on a two-minute teaser,” she said. “Watch the show and then decide.”

The actress expressed her hope that Sharmin would not be discouraged by the trolling. “She’s a strong girl,” Farida said. “I’m sure she’ll handle it well.”

‘Heeramandi’ is set to release on Netflix in 2023.
