First Confirmed Human Case Of H5N2 Bird Flu Died Of Multiple Factors: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that the first confirmed human case of H5N2 bird flu, which occurred in Cambodia earlier this month, died due to a combination of factors including pneumonia and organ dysfunction.

The patient, an 11-year-old girl, developed symptoms of bird flu on February 16th, including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. She was admitted to a local hospital and later transferred to a specialized hospital in Phnom Penh, where she received treatment including antiviral medication.

According to the WHO, the patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and she died on February 22nd. Test results from the WHO’s Influenza Laboratory in Melbourne confirmed that the virus responsible for the infection was H5N2.

The WHO noted that while H5N2 is primarily a virus that affects birds, it has the potential to infect humans who come into close contact with infected birds or their secretions. It is important to take precautions to prevent transmission, such as avoiding direct contact with birds and practicing good hygiene.
