The five MPs from Karnataka who have been given ministerial roles are:

1. H D Kumaraswamy: Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers
2. Prahlad Joshi: Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal, and Mines
3. Bhagwanth Khuba: Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers
4. Rajeev Chandrasekhar: Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology
5. Shobha Karandlaje: Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

These appointments represent a significant increase in the representation of Karnataka in the Union cabinet. In the previous Modi government, only three MPs from the state were given ministerial roles.

The appointment of H D Kumaraswamy, a former chief minister of Karnataka, is seen as a major boost to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal (Secular) party had allied with the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but the alliance failed to win any seats in Karnataka.

The appointments of Prahlad Joshi and Bhagwanth Khuba are also seen as important for the BJP in Karnataka. Joshi is a senior leader from Hubli-Dharwad region, while Khuba is from the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.

The inclusion of Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Shobha Karandlaje in the cabinet is likely to be welcomed by the technology and agricultural sectors in Karnataka. Chandrasekhar is the founder and chairman of Jupiter Capital, a venture capital firm, while Karandlaje is a former state minister for agriculture.

The expansion of the cabinet is expected to provide greater representation for Karnataka in the decision-making process at the national level.
