New Delhi: Several leaders from Maharashtra are likely to be inducted into the Union Cabinet in the upcoming expansion. Among the frontrunners are Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and Republican Party of India (A) leader Ramdas Athawale.

Former state minister Prataprao Jadhav, BJP MLA Raksha Khadse, and Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader Murlidhar Mohol are also said to be in the running.

Gadkari is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has held several ministerial positions in the past. Goyal is a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has handled key portfolios in the government. Athawale is a long-standing ally of the BJP and has been a minister in the previous NDA government.

Jadhav is a former minister of state for textiles and is currently a BJP legislator from Baramati. Khadse is a former state minister who resigned from the BJP in 2020 and later joined the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. Mohol is a former minister in the Maharashtra government and is currently the leader of the Shiv Sena (Shinde) in the state assembly.

The expansion of the Union Cabinet is expected to take place shortly and will include representatives from various states. The inclusion of leaders from Maharashtra will strengthen the BJP’s presence in the state and help address regional aspirations.
