‘I’m Sorry…’: VK Pandian Quits Active Politics After BJD Loses Odisha

Bhubaneswar, India – Veteran politician VK Pandian has announced his retirement from active politics after his party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), lost the recent Odisha Assembly elections.

In a heartfelt letter to party workers, Pandian expressed his gratitude for their support and apologized for not being able to deliver a victory for the BJD.

“I have always strived to serve the people of Odisha to the best of my abilities,” Pandian wrote. “However, I must now acknowledge that we have fallen short of expectations. For that, I offer my sincere apologies.”

Pandian, who served as the BJD’s state president from 2014 to 2019, has been a key figure in the party’s growth and success. He is widely respected for his organizational skills and his deep understanding of Odisha’s political landscape.

His decision to quit active politics comes as a blow to the BJD, which has been in power for the past 22 years. The party lost its majority in the recent elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the largest party.

In his letter, Pandian urged party workers to remain united and to work towards the BJD’s revival. He also expressed confidence that the party will bounce back stronger in the future.

“I will always remain a loyal supporter of the BJD and will continue to contribute to the party’s cause in whatever way I can,” Pandian wrote.
