J&K Parties to Submit EC Applications for Assembly Elections

Srinagar, July 15: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission (EC) has invited applications from political parties.

The EC has set up a notification system for parties to apply for recognition as state parties or national parties. The last date for submitting applications is August 1, 2023.

Political parties wishing to contest the elections must submit their applications to the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir. The applications must include details about the party’s history, organization, and election manifesto.

According to the EC, a political party must have secured at least 6% of the total votes polled in a recent Assembly election or Lok Sabha election in J&K to qualify as a state party.

For national party status, a party must have been recognized as a state party in at least four states or have won at least 2% of the total seats in the Lok Sabha.

The EC has emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process. It has urged political parties to adhere to the guidelines and submit their applications within the stipulated time frame.

The upcoming Assembly elections in J&K are expected to be fiercely contested, with major political parties gearing up to participate. The EC’s move to accept applications from parties is seen as a step towards ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
