Leaders Condemn “Dastardly” Terror Attack On Bus Full Of Pilgrims In J&K

Jammu and Kashmir, India – Leaders from across the political spectrum have condemned the “dastardly” terror attack on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, which claimed the lives of seven people and injured several others.

Attack Details

On Wednesday morning, August 10, 2023, militants attacked the bus with grenades and gunfire as it was passing through the Chenani-Nashri tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The bus was carrying pilgrims from Gujarat returning from the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Casualties

Seven people, including two women, were killed in the attack. Several others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Government Response

The attack has been met with strong condemnation from the Indian government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and promised a strong response. The Home Ministry has deployed additional security forces to the area and launched a manhunt for the attackers.

Political leaders from various parties have denounced the attack as cowardly and inhuman.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the attack. Preliminary investigations suggest that the militants belong to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist group.
