Kolkata, West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has been unanimously elected as the Chairperson of the TMC Parliamentary Party. The election took place during a meeting of TMC MPs in New Delhi on Monday.
Banerjee’s election as Parliamentary Party Chairperson strengthens her position within the TMC and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. She is expected to play a key role in the upcoming parliamentary session and in the formulation of government policies.
As Chairperson, Banerjee will be responsible for leading the TMC’s parliamentary wing and coordinating with other opposition parties to present a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She will also be responsible for ensuring the passage of legislation and the implementation of government programs in Parliament.
Banerjee’s election comes at a time when the TMC is facing challenges from the BJP both in West Bengal and at the national level. The BJP has made significant gains in West Bengal in recent elections and is seeking to further expand its presence in the state.
Banerjee’s election as Parliamentary Party Chairperson is expected to help the TMC consolidate its position and prepare for the upcoming state elections in 2026. It also sends a strong message to the BJP that the TMC will not be intimidated by its attempts to gain power in West Bengal.
