Mamata Banerjee Won’t Attend PM Modi’s Oath Ceremony, Claims Lack of Invitation

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Wednesday that she will not be attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony on Sunday.

“I have not received any invitation for the swearing-in ceremony. So, I will not be able to attend it,” Banerjee told reporters in Kolkata.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief’s statement comes amid speculation that she might skip the event due to political reasons. The TMC is the main opposition party in West Bengal and has been critical of the Modi government.

Banerjee’s absence from the oath-taking ceremony will be noticeable, as she is one of the seniormost leaders in the country. She is also the only woman chief minister currently serving.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has not yet commented on Banerjee’s statement.
