Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at those who had questioned the integrity of electronic voting machines (EVMs) after the results of the recent assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory were announced on May 2.

“EVMs have silenced those who used to spread doubts about them,” Modi said while addressing a rally in Gujarat.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious in Punjab.

The opposition parties had raised concerns about the use of EVMs in the elections, alleging that they could be manipulated. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has repeatedly defended the use of EVMs, saying that they are tamper-proof and reliable.

Modi’s jibe at the opposition parties is seen as an attempt to discredit their claims and to bolster the credibility of EVMs. The opposition parties have criticized Modi’s remarks, accusing him of undermining the electoral process.

The ECI has announced that it will be conducting a hackathon to demonstrate the security of EVMs. The hackathon will be open to anyone who believes they can manipulate the machines.
