Bhubaneswar, May 29, 2023: Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for a record fifth consecutive term on Monday.

The ceremony, held at the Raj Bhavan, was attended by Governor Ramesh Bais and other dignitaries. Patnaik, 76, was joined by 21 newly elected MLAs, who also took their oath as cabinet ministers.

The BJD, led by Patnaik, won a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 112 seats in the 147-member house. This marked the party’s unprecedented fifth straight electoral triumph in the state.

Patnaik, who has been at the helm of Odisha’s affairs since 2000, is widely credited with transforming the state into a major economic hub. He is known for his pro-poor policies, including the implementation of various welfare schemes.

In his address after taking oath, Patnaik thanked the people of Odisha for placing their trust in the BJD. He promised to continue serving the state with dedication and vowed to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We will work tirelessly to create a more prosperous and inclusive Odisha,” Patnaik said. “Our focus will be on strengthening healthcare, education, and infrastructure.”

The swearing-in ceremony marked a new chapter in the political history of Odisha, with Patnaik poised to extend his legacy as one of the longest-serving Chief Ministers in India.
