Netanyahu’s Grip Weakens: Israel’s War Cabinet Minister Gantz Resigns

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz has resigned from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, citing a lack of progress on key issues. Gantz, leader of the Blue and White party, released a statement saying, “Netanyahu is preventing us from advancing…. We are obligated to act in a different way.”

The resignation comes amid growing tension between Netanyahu and Gantz over the future of the government. Netanyahu has been criticized for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his policies towards the Palestinians. Gantz, on the other hand, has pushed for greater cooperation with the Palestinian Authority and a more conciliatory approach to the peace process.

The split in the government is expected to further weaken Netanyahu’s position. The prime minister is already facing corruption charges and has lost the support of several key allies. Gantz’s resignation may trigger new elections, which could further erode Netanyahu’s hold on power.
