Nitish Kumar Offered PM Position by INDIA Bloc, But Congress Disputes Claim

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reportedly been offered the Prime Minister’s post by the INDIA bloc, a coalition of 40 opposition parties. However, the Congress party has disputed this claim.

According to sources within the INDIA bloc, Kumar was approached by representatives of the coalition during a recent meeting in Patna. The bloc is said to have proposed him as their candidate for Prime Minister in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Kumar is considered a potential challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is known for his good governance record in Bihar and enjoys cross-party support.

However, the Congress party, the largest opposition party in India, has expressed skepticism over the INDIA bloc’s claim. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that no such offer had been made to Kumar and that the Congress was not part of any bloc that was making such offers.

“The INDIA bloc is a non-existent entity. The Congress is not aware of any such offer being made to Nitish Kumar,” Surjewala said.

The Congress’s position is significant as it has been critical of Kumar in the past. The two parties have been at loggerheads over several issues, including the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens.

Political analysts say that the Congress’s rejection of the INDIA bloc’s claim could be a sign that the opposition is still divided and may not be able to mount a united challenge to the BJP in the 2024 elections.
