Mumbai, July 6 (IANS): Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that he would not step down as the Opposition Leader despite his offer to resign. He stated that he had a strategy in mind and would not be running away from his responsibilities.

Fadnavis’ offer to resign came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost the recent Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. However, the party leadership has rejected his offer.

Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said, “I am not running away from my responsibilities. I have a strategy in mind and I will not step down as the Opposition Leader. I will continue to fight for the people of Maharashtra.”

Fadnavis’ decision to stay on has been welcomed by BJP leaders. Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil said, “We are happy that Devendra Fadnavis has decided to stay on as the Opposition Leader. He is a strong leader and we need him to guide the party in this crucial time.”

The BJP is currently the main opposition party in Maharashtra. The party lost the recent assembly elections to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which is led by the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Congress.

Fadnavis’ decision to stay on as the Opposition Leader is seen as a sign that the BJP is not giving up on Maharashtra. The party is likely to continue to play a key role in the state’s politics in the coming months and years.
