Abu Dhabi: Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi put up a clinical show with the ball as Afghanistan restricted New Zealand to 33/3 in six overs during their Super 12 encounter of the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Farooqi, in particular, was on fire in his opening spell, dismissing Devon Conway (10), Kane Williamson (7) and Glenn Phillips (1) to leave New Zealand reeling at 21/3. Rahman was equally impressive, conceding just 4 runs in his two overs and also claiming the wicket of dangerman Martin Guptill (0).

Earlier, Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 160/5 on the board, riding on a blistering half-century from skipper Mohammad Nabi. Nabi smashed 50 off just 28 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes, to lift Afghanistan from a precarious 65/3.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (25), Najibullah Zadran (23) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (21) also chipped in with valuable contributions.
