On No NCP in Modi 3.0, Devendra Fadnavis Says No Consensus on Cabinet Offer

In a significant development, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will not be a part of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. This announcement comes amidst speculations that the NCP might join the alliance after the formation of the new government.

Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said, “There is no consensus on NCP joining the Cabinet. The decision on the allocation of cabinet portfolios will be taken by the Prime Minister.”

This statement contradicts earlier reports that the NCP was in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to accommodate its leaders in the Modi 3.0 government. The NCP, led by Sharad Pawar, had been a key ally of the BJP in Maharashtra until 2019, when it broke away over seat-sharing differences.

Fadnavis’s remarks come as the BJP prepares to announce its cabinet on Thursday. According to sources, the party is likely to induct around 20-25 new ministers, including veterans and fresh faces.

The absence of the NCP from the Modi 3.0 government is seen as a setback for those who hoped for a broader alliance at the national level. However, it remains to be seen whether the NCP will continue to align with the opposition in the future or explore other options.
