Opposition Bloc Disintegrating: Modi Tears Into Congress’s Claim of Moral Victory In Polls, EVM Manipulation Allegations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dismissed the Congress party’s claim of a moral victory in the recently concluded assembly polls as a “farce.” Addressing a rally in Karnataka, Modi accused the Congress of engaging in “falsehood and drama” and trying to “mislead” the public.

“The Congress is trying to portray themselves as victims, but the people have rejected them,” Modi said. “Their claims of a moral victory are nothing but a joke.”

Modi also hit out at the Congress’s allegations of electronic voting machine (EVM) manipulation, calling them “baseless and unfounded.”

“The EVMs are tamper-proof and have been used successfully in many elections without any problems,” Modi said. “The Congress is simply trying to deflect blame for their own failures.”

Reacting to Modi’s criticism, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Prime Minister was “in denial” and accused him of “insulting the mandate of the people.”

“The people have rejected the BJP’s divisive and communal politics, and instead voted for the Congress’s message of unity and development,” Surjewala said. “Modi is trying to hide his defeat by making baseless allegations and spreading falsehoods.”

The Congress had claimed a “moral victory” in the recent polls, citing its improved performance compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, the ruling BJP emerged victorious in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Manipur, while the Congress lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Opposition bloc, which includes the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Left Front, has been in disarray following the poll results. The Samajwadi Party has already accused the Congress of “betrayal” and has indicated that it may no longer support Congress president Sonia Gandhi as the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
