PM Modi Expresses Concern over Attack on Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the attack on Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on January 1, 2023.

In a tweet, PM Modi stated, “Deeply concerned to hear about the attack on PM @ MetteFrederiksen of Denmark. I strongly condemn all forms of violence and wish her a speedy recovery.”

Frederiksen escaped unharmed when a gunman opened fire on her at a New Year’s Eve celebration in Copenhagen’s Kongens Nytorv square. The suspect was apprehended by the police, and the motive for the attack is still being investigated.

Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Jeppe Kofod, expressed gratitude for PM Modi’s support in a response tweet, saying, “Thank you @narendramodi for your concern and solidarity. Denmark stands with India in our shared fight against terrorism and extremism.”

The attack on Frederiksen has elicited widespread condemnation from leaders around the world. European Union President Ursula von der Leyen condemned it as an “act of terrorism” and pledged the EU’s support to Denmark.

India and Denmark have a long history of friendly relations, and both countries have condemned terrorism and violent extremism.
