New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has rejected the mercy plea of Pakistani national Mohammad Arif, who was convicted and sentenced to death for his role in the terrorist attack on the Red Fort in 2000.

Arif was one of the three terrorists who carried out the attack, which resulted in the deaths of three Indian soldiers and a civilian. He was apprehended by security forces after a shootout.

In 2005, a trial court convicted Arif and sentenced him to death. The Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the sentence. Arif then filed a mercy plea with the President.

After considering the case, President Murmu rejected Arif’s plea. In a statement, the Home Ministry said that the President’s decision was based on the gravity of the crime, the evidence against Arif, and the lack of any mitigating circumstances.

The rejection of Arif’s mercy plea upholds the rule of law and sends a strong message to those who engage in terrorism. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
