Pune: More Rain Expected Today, City Exceeds Monthly Rainfall Quota In A Day

Pune, August 10, 2023: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall for Pune today, as the city continues to reel under the impact of incessant downpours. The city has already exceeded its monthly rainfall quota on Tuesday, receiving a staggering 250 mm in just 24 hours.

The heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging in several areas, particularly in the low-lying regions of the city. Traffic was disrupted, and some parts of the city were without electricity for several hours. The city administration has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune, warning of more heavy rainfall in the coming days. The city is likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The city administration has deployed emergency teams to respond to any situation that may arise due to the rainfall.

The excessive rainfall has also led to a rise in water levels in dams and rivers in the region. The Khadakwasla Dam, which supplies water to Pune, has reached 95% of its capacity. The Sinhagad Institute (SI) has advised people to stay away from the banks of rivers and dams.

The rainfall has brought relief from the scorching heat that has gripped the city in recent weeks. However, the heavy downpours have also led to some inconvenience and disruption. The city administration is taking all necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the rainfall and ensure the safety of residents.
