Hyderabad: Ramoji Rao, the founder of Ramoji Film City and media mogul, passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday, July 1, 2023. He was the founder and chairman of the Eenadu Group of Newspapers, which publishes the popular Telugu daily Eenadu. Rao also founded the Sakshi media group and launched the ETV network of television channels.

Rao was born in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, in 1936. He started his career as a journalist and later became an entrepreneur. In 1988, he established Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest integrated film studio complex. The film city has hosted the production of numerous blockbuster films and television shows.

Rao was known for his philanthropy and support of various social causes. He established the Ramoji Foundation, which works in the areas of education, healthcare, and community development. He also founded the Prasanna Trust, which provides financial assistance to needy students.
