Moscow, Russia – Russia has launched a barrage of missiles and drones at Ukraine, targeting key infrastructure and military sites ahead of planned diplomatic talks aimed at ending the months-long war.

According to Ukrainian officials, multiple explosions were reported in the capital Kyiv, as well as the cities of Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk. Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted some of the missiles, but several hit targets, causing damage and casualties.

The attacks coincided with the announcement of peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials planned for Wednesday in Turkey. However, Moscow’s escalation of hostilities has raised concerns about the prospects for a ceasefire or a negotiated settlement.

Western leaders have condemned Russia’s latest attacks, calling them a violation of international law and a show of force designed to undermine diplomatic efforts.

“Russia’s continued aggression demonstrates its utter disregard for human life and the principles of international diplomacy,” said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

The United States and its allies have promised to provide Ukraine with additional military and humanitarian assistance. The US has also announced new sanctions against Russian officials and entities in response to the ongoing attacks.

Despite the dire situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed hope that the diplomatic talks will yield results.

“We will do everything we can to stop this war and protect our sovereignty,” Zelenskyy said in a televised address. “But we need the world’s support. We need weapons, we need sanctions, and we need diplomatic pressure.”

The upcoming peace talks will be a crucial test for the international community’s ability to mediate an end to the conflict in Ukraine. However, Russia’s recent actions have cast a shadow over the prospects for a quick or easy resolution.
