The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has reiterated its commitment to continuing the 4% Muslim quota under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list. This statement was made by Nara Lokesh, son of former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and General Secretary of TDP.

Lokesh stated that the TDP would continue the policy of providing reservations for Muslims under the OBC category. He emphasized that this decision was taken to ensure social justice and equal opportunities for all sections of society.

The 4% Muslim quota under the OBC list was introduced in 2004 by the then TDP government led by N. Chandrababu Naidu. The quota was intended to address the historical and social disadvantages faced by the Muslim community.

Lokesh’s announcement comes amidst growing concerns among Muslims over the recent statements by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders against the religion. The BJP has been accused of marginalizing and discriminating against the Muslim community.

The TDP’s decision to continue the 4% Muslim quota is seen as a gesture of support to the community and a way to counter the BJP’s divisive rhetoric. It is also expected to strengthen the TDP’s base among Muslim voters.

The TDP’s move has been welcomed by Muslim leaders and organizations. They have expressed gratitude to the party for its commitment to social justice and inclusion.
