Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction with state president K. Annamalai’s leadership following the party’s poor performance in the recent by-elections.

The party lost both the Erode East and Tiruppur by-elections, with Annamalai’s handling of the campaigns coming under fire. Sources within the BJP told The New Indian Express that senior leaders had raised concerns about Annamalai’s lack of experience and his decision-making.

“He made several mistakes during the campaign, including neglecting some key constituencies and relying too heavily on social media,” said a party official. “We could have won Erode East if he had paid more attention to the ground and listened to the feedback from local party members.”

Another BJP leader criticized Annamalai for his “arrogant” attitude towards senior party members. “He refused to consult with us and dismissed our suggestions,” the leader said. “He has isolated himself from the rest of the party and created a culture of fear.”

Annamalai, a former IPS officer, was appointed BJP state president in July 2022. He is seen as a rising star in the party, but his recent setbacks have raised questions about his ability to lead the party to success in the upcoming elections.

The BJP leadership is now facing pressure to address the concerns raised by its members. A meeting is expected to be convened soon to discuss Annamalai’s future as state president.
