On October 2, a group of trekkers embarked on an expedition to Uttarakhand’s Nanda Devi National Park, but their journey turned into a harrowing nightmare. A sudden downpour and subsequent landslide left them stranded in freezing conditions, without adequate food and water.

Survivors of the tragedy have now come forward to recount their horrifying experiences. They spoke of witnessing fellow trekkers dying in front of them, unable to even drink water.

“We saw people dying in front of us,” said one survivor, identified as Vishal Yadav. “There was no water, no food. People were slipping and falling into the freezing water.”

Another survivor, Ajay Singh, described the unbearable thirst that gripped them. “We tried to drink water from the streams, but it was too cold and painful,” he said. “We were so desperate that we even tried to drink our own urine.”

The survivors also spoke of the hypothermia that set in, numbing their bodies and making it difficult to move. “We couldn’t feel our legs or arms,” said a survivor named Sonu Gusain. “We were just lying there, waiting to die.”

The tragedy has raised questions about the safety precautions taken during the trek. The survivors claimed that they were not properly equipped for the extreme conditions they encountered.

“We had only a few thin jackets and sleeping bags,” said Yadav. “We were not prepared for such a harsh environment.”

The Indian Express has reported that the authorities are investigating the incident and have identified the tour operator involved. The operator is being accused of negligence and failing to provide proper safety equipment and guidance to the trekkers.
