In the aftermath of the devastating Uttarakhand trekking tragedy, survivors have shared harrowing accounts of their ordeal. Trapped in freezing temperatures and heavy snow, they were forced to endure unimaginable hardships.

One such survivor, 25-year-old Abhishek Negi, described the 36 grueling hours he spent with the bodies of his fellow trekkers. “We huddled together for warmth, our clothes soaked in blood,” he told NDTV. “We couldn’t move or cry out because we were too weak.”

Negi and his group of nine had embarked on a trek to the Kedarnath shrine when they were caught in a sudden blizzard. The heavy snow caused a series of avalanches that swept away several of their group.

Negi and the remaining survivors found themselves trapped in a ravine, surrounded by the bodies of their companions. “We knew they were dead, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave them,” Negi said.

As darkness fell, the survivors were gripped by fear and desperation. They had no food or water, and the cold threatened to kill them. “We thought we were going to die,” Negi said.

Miraculously, a rescue team reached them after 36 hours. The survivors were airlifted to a hospital, where they received medical treatment for frostbite, hypothermia, and other injuries.

The Uttarakhand trekking tragedy claimed the lives of at least 27 people, including experienced climbers and guides. The survivors have expressed deep gratitude to the rescue teams and volunteers who worked tirelessly to save them.

Their harrowing stories serve as a reminder of the dangers of trekking in remote areas, particularly during inclement weather. They also highlight the resilience and unwavering spirit that can exist even in the face of unimaginable adversity.
