Wasim Akram’s Unfiltered Criticism of Pakistan’s “Pathetic” Show Against USA in T20 World Cup
Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has launched a scathing attack on his former team for their “pathetic” performance in their T20 World Cup opener against the United States.
Pakistan suffered a shock 33-run defeat to the minnows, who are making their tournament debut. Akram, who commentated on the match for Star Sports, called the team’s batting performance “embarrassing” and the bowling “toothless.”
“I am ashamed of the way Pakistan played today. It was a pathetic performance against a team that is ranked below 20th in the world,” Akram said.
He slammed the team’s batting, particularly the top order, for failing to put up a decent total.
“The openers were clueless. They had no idea what they were doing at the crease. And the middle order didn’t even trouble the scorers,” Akram said.
He also expressed disappointment with the bowling, which he said lacked pace, accuracy, and aggression.
“The bowlers were toothless. They couldn’t bowl a single yorker. They couldn’t even bowl fast enough to trouble the American batsmen,” Akram said.
Akram’s criticism is particularly stinging given his status as a Pakistan legend. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers of all time and has played a key role in many of Pakistan’s past successes.
His comments echo the sentiments of many Pakistani fans who are frustrated with the team’s poor recent performances. The defeat to the USA was Pakistan’s first to a non-Test playing nation in a T20 World Cup.
Pakistan now face an uphill battle to qualify for the Super 12s. They must win their remaining three matches against South Africa, Bangladesh, and England to have any chance of progressing.
